Columbus Zoo & Aquarium

Polar Frontier

The Polar Frontier exhibit is part of a multi-million dollar zoo expansion begun in 2007 and completed in 2010. The interpretive exhibits and animal enclosures are highly themed, and include a wide variety of graphics and interactive stations. The interpretive message focuses on the arctic habitat, and educates the visitor on ways to improve energy consumption in an effort to mitigate global climate change.

The primary interpretive exhibit space is located in a renovated church. As part of DDI’s scope of work, we were responsible for accurately accessing the existing space, making recommendations on usage options, and ultimately designing, fabricating, and integrating new exhibits into the space that would transform it into an immersive environment.

In 2011 the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) awarded the Polar Frontier exhibit with its highest honor of “Exhibit of the Year.”
