Highbanks Nature Center

As part of the expansive network of parks and recreation facilities operated by the Columbus and Franklin County Metropolitan Park District, Highbanks is home to a wide variety of outdoor nature activities.

Client – Columbus and Franklin County Metropolitan Parks
Project – Highbanks Nature Center
Size – 1,200 sq. ft.
Location – Lewis Center, OH
Scope of Work – Design Development, Engineering, Fabrication, Installation
Designer – Display Dynamics, Inc., Interactive Group

In addition to the trails, and other natural features, the park is also home to a large Education Center. Opened in the early 90's, the center had long outlived the original exhibits and interpretation, and was in need of a face lift.

Using some preliminary concepts and interpretive planning provided by the park district, DDI developed, fabricated, and installed a complete exhibit makeover which has added new life and excitement at the center. Some of the features include a full-size replication of the largest sycamore tree in the United States, a recreation of the shale Bluffs of Highbanks complete with interactives and other educational bonuses, as well as large and colorful imagery that highlights the natural beauty and wonder of the park.
